Drivers for seasonal variability in sea level around the China seas

چکیده

Globally variable ocean and atmospheric dynamics lead to spatially complex seasonal cycles in sea level. The China Seas, that is the Bohai, Yellow, East South seas, a region with strong amplitudes, straddles transition between tropical temperature zones, monsoonal westerlies, shelf deep zones. Here we investigate drivers for variability level from tide gauge records, satellite altimetry along output NEMO (Nucleus European Modeling of Ocean) model including surface height bottom pressure meteorological data Seas. cycle accounts 37% - 94% monthly 81 ranging 18 59 cm. We divided into four types: 1) an asymmetric sinusoid; 2) clearly defined peak on flat background; 3) relatively signal; 4) symmetric co-sinusoid. Type 1 found northern Taiwan, Korea, Japan Philippines where Inverse Barometer (IB) effects dominates seasonality steric contribution. monsoon associated barotropic response freshwater exchange play important roles type 2, (eastern southern Chinese coasts), 3 (East Malaysia) 4 (Vietnam Gulf Thailand). IB corrected amplitudes are larger continental areas than ocean, maximum Thailand, underestimates amplitude coast by nearly 50%.

Sea Level Acceleration in the China Seas

While global mean sea level rise (SLR) and acceleration (SLA) are indicators of climate change and are informative regarding the current state of the climate, assessments of regional and local SLR are essential for policy makers responding to, and preparing for, changes in sea level. In this work, three acceleration detection techniques are used to demonstrate the robust SLA in the China Seas. ...

Assessment of Altimetric Range and Geophysical Corrections and Mean Sea Surface Models - Impacts on Sea Level Variability around the Indonesian Seas

The focus of this study is the assessment of the main range and geophysical corrections needed to derive accurate sea level time series from satellite altimetry in the Indonesia seas, the ultimate aim being the determination of sea level trend for this region. Due to its island nature, this is an area of large complexity for altimetric studies, a true laboratory for coastal altimetry. For this ...

Investigation of Oil Spill Distribution in the Southern Caspian Sea Affected by Seasonal Variability Impacts

Because of environmental sensitivity of the Caspian Sea, any subsea oil spills and blowouts can inflict destructive impacts on marine environment and cause catastrophic damage in the area. Employing mathematical simulation is one of the easiest and most effective prediction tools for understanding the oil spill behavior under various environmental forces. In this regard, Mike3D simulation packa...

Seasonal sea level variations in the Adriatic

Seasonal changes of the Adriatic Sea level, obtained by analyses of monthly sea level data measured at the Split tide gauge station in 1958-2001, are reported. The data were correlated by multivariant analysis to (1) local meteorological data on air temperature, air pressure, and precipitation, collected at the Split station and data on winds obtained from ECMWF ERA40 Reanalysis fields and (2) ...
